Independent Consultant at Laburnum Consulting. John runs his own consultancy company, Laburnum Consulting, advising on economic and geo-political issues. He lectures at St Mary’s University Twickenham in Politics and Economics and holds a number of non-executive positions for NGOs, charities, and think tanks. For most of his career John worked in the official sector, including spells as the Executive Director in charge of reserves management at the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, and as the Chief Manager, Reserves at the Bank of England. He was also a director of the European Investment Bank and European Investment Fund, an advisor to the European Commission’s Working Group of Technical Experts on Markets, an Associate Fellow of Chatham House, a senior lecturer at the Macro-Economic and Financial Management Institute of Africa (MEFMI) and a lecturer and technical advisor at the Bank of England’s Centre for Central Banking Studies.
John was educated at Cambridge University (MA in Mathematics and Statistics) and the London School of Economics (Diploma in Business Studies).
